This property offers a convenient, quiet location with comfortable rooms and strong shower pressure, but recent reviews indicate serious issues with cleanliness, water quality, and proactive housekeeping management. While some staff members are praised for being friendly and helpful, overall service consistency and facility condition have received significant negative attention.
Needed a hotel near the hospital off of Lomita Blvd and this one for the bill. The hotel was nice and quiet. The room was clean and did not smell at all as others state the they have experienced. The water pressure in the shower and temperature of the hot water was perfect. Staff was friendly at check in and check out. Will definitely be staying here again when we come back this area.
It’s an old Courtyard. Outside looks brand new but inside definitely dates it. It’s fairly dark inside. Rooms have a musty smell. Water for shower did not get hot. Staff was friendly. Courtyard outside is well kept.
We're paying almost $200 a night for zero service. I'm sitting in the lobby writing this review because we literally have to sit here and monitor them to get anyone to clean our room. It's been five days with no one coming by- no trash emptied, no fresh towels, no bedding, no nothing. We asked people yesterday twice, were guaranteed we were on the list to be cleaned, nothing. We asked today, were guaranteed someone was going "immediately", two hours later nothing. We made the front desk go get someone, stood there and watched her go in our room and that was the only way we finally got anything done but they didn't wipe the counters or vacuum and they didn't empty one of the trash cans. All they did was replace the linens and empty one trash can. No manager on site to talk to. This is the worst hotel service I've ever had in my life. I won't come back. We'd go somewhere else now if we could. This isn't worth the astronomical price and it's definitely not 3 stars.
Nice hotel and best of all: quiet! Although in a dense part of the city the hotel is configured around its namesake courtyard. Unlike other hotels in the area, you aren’t subjected to incessant traffic sounds. Plus, like other hotels in the area. You don’t have to pay for parking. The only downside is there’s no coffee available other than paying the high prices at the Starbucks. Sadly, most hotels no longer offer a coffee bar to guests. Marriott being one of them. Annoying to have to wait in line and pay the high prices just to get a coffee in the morning. But otherwise, a wonderful stay.
RUN!! Absolutely filthy and dingy, the staff is abysmal, have no regard for cleanliness or safety regulations. The manager Evelyn is unprofessional and should be fired. The entire hotel should be shut down for unsafe and unsanitary conditions of their water supply in the hotel, people sleeping on the furniture in lobby, absolutely filthy and disgusting overall. The rooms should be rebuilt as they have a musty odor that has imprinted deep within the carpets and walls, and the beds are broken in and need replacement. The frames of the beds are old and need replaced, overall, do not ever stay here. The staffs response to the conditions described above was to call customer service, and customer service thought it appropriate to not refund the stay given the abysmal conditions. Better off staying somewhere else.
Unfortunately, our experience at this Courtyard by Marriott was extremely disappointing and left me with serious concerns about both the room conditions and how issues were handled afterward. The room had a strong musty, mildew-like odor that never went away. It was so unpleasant that we had to keep the balcony door open overnight just to be comfortable in the space. The beds were also very uncomfortable—thin, overly soft mattresses that sat low to the ground and offered little support. What concerned me most was the cloudy and white appearing tap water. Because of this, we did not feel safe showering or even washing our hands or faces. We contacted the front desk right away, and the staff confirmed this was not normal. We were told the matter would be corrected and that a manager would follow up with us. However, no manager reached out. We had to follow up ourselves multiple times, and it took about a week to receive any response. In the end, what was initially promised was not honored, and only partial compensation was offered. After expressing our dissatisfaction with this lack of follow-through, communication from management stopped altogether. Between the condition of the room, the water issue, and the poor follow-up, I would not stay at this property again and would not recommend it to others.
We had an extremely poor experience at this Courtyard by Marriott, both in terms of room conditions and how the situation was handled afterward. The guest room had a strong musty/mildew odor that persisted throughout the stay. The smell was so severe that we had to keep the balcony door open overnight in order to tolerate being in the room. The beds were also uncomfortable; the mattresses were very thin, extremely soft, and positioned close to the ground, offering little support. More concerning, after we went to sleep and woke up, we discovered that the tap water was cloudy and white in appearance. Because of this, my family and I did not shower or wash our hands or faces at all. I immediately contacted the front desk. The staff confirmed this was not normal or safe and informed me that the stay would be refunded and corrected, and that the manager, Evelyn, would be reaching out to me. No manager contacted me. I had to email and call to follow up, and it took an entire week to receive a response. Ultimately, what was promised was not honored, and only partial compensation was offered. When I expressed my dissatisfaction with the failure to honor what was promised after such an awful stay, communication from management stopped entirely. Based on the condition of the room, the water issue, and the lack of follow-through, I would never stay at this property again and would not recommend it to anyone.
Very dirty and dingy! I booked two rooms via Bonvoy for 3 nights. One of the rooms plans changed and I changed my reservation for one of the rooms. The price changed and when I asked the front desk to adjust the price upon my stay, they management refused. Even the GM refused after filing a case with Bonvoy. The original I rate I booked should have been honored. This issue is pale in comparison to the experice I faced. I arrived due to a late plane at 2am. I was given a wheel chair accessible room. It smelled, the bed was completed uneven and so low to the ground I had to pull myself up. I was switched to another room and in the new room, you could feel the carpet was so dirty and underneath the sink was full of visible dust and mold! The entire property is old, musty and dirty. I have stayed at other Marriott Courtyards which are well maintained and it makes this one look very bad.
Location was good- down the street was the Hawaiian Restaurant- delicious food and bakery goods. CVS, Walgreens, Target, etc were close by. People at the Front Desk were friendly and helpful. Our room was nice. The powerful shower and the amenities were excellent! The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars: We never had anyone come in to clean our room bringing us fresh towels etc. There wasn’t a hanging sign to put in the door handle for maid service- only a do not disturb sign. We were also surprised they didn’t give 2 complimentary bottles of water, or tea bags like most hotels. Their cafe did serve Starbucks with a smile.
Disappointing Experience – Poor Service and Unmet Requests I rarely leave negative reviews, but I’m genuinely disappointed with my stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in Torrance, California. From the moment we checked in, we encountered multiple service issues that were never resolved. I called the front desk several times requesting clean towels—no one ever brought them. I also asked for an extra bed, which was denied without explanation. I requested that the room be cleaned while we were out, but when we returned, nothing had been done. I even called again for extra bedding and, once again, nothing was delivered. The lack of follow-through and attention to basic guest needs was incredibly frustrating. I expected more from a Marriott property. Sadly, this experience has made me reconsider staying with Courtyard in the future.
