The DoubleTree by Hilton Torrance - South Bay receives generally positive feedback, often highlighting its convenient location near shopping centers and the friendly staff. However, recent reviews indicate increasing concerns regarding noise levels, particularly on the second floor, and inconsistent service, including issues with breakfast and water temperature. Parking fees have also become a point of contention.
Title: Avoid the 2nd floor! Terrible noise from the mechanical room. In the past, our experiences and the hotel service here were strictly 5-star, but the room on the 2nd floor deserves only 1 star. Due to the hotel being fully booked, we were assigned a room on the 2nd floor. The moment we stepped out of the elevator, we heard a loud mechanical roar. Our room was right next to the machine room, and the engine noise was constant—24 hours a day. We couldn't rest at all. When we complained, the front desk said they were full and couldn't guarantee a change. Honestly, a room with this level of noise should not be sold. To avoid reliving this accommodation nightmare, we will be prioritizing other hotels for our future stays. Do not accept the 2nd floor!
Staff...friendly and helpful...this time I got my chocolate cookie and water without asking. Rooms...don't waste your money on the executive rooms as there is no lounge. With executive lounge, your supposed to get a complimentary breakfast for two. When I double checked, they said I didn't get it with my room but I showed them the website which said that executive rooms get the complimentary breakfast for two and then they adjusted it. The next morning when I asked the hostess she said no and had to double-check with the manager again so that was a little annoying. The executive rooms are on level 10 and 11 and above them is a party room which if being occupied. Expect to have loud thumping music all night long, especially if it's a Friday or Saturday stay. We were only staying for one night so I didn't bother changing room but if I had stayed longer that would have been again another annoyance (plus I was dead tired from the flight but my wife needed ear plugs to fall asleep). Location is great. It's right beside the mall and there is a big Japanese grocery store in there that has a great food court and right beside the Hilton is a Korean grocery store and there's a food court there as well. Overall a nice day but I would have picked a less expensive room on a lower floor.
I have been using this hotel in and out for a year. Great location, very clean, and friendly professional staff. Special thanks to Rico who always goes above and beyond to ensure guests feel welcomed and comfortable throughout the stay. I highly recommend this place.
A big shoutout to the team at this specific Doubletree establishment. I thought I had left my sentimental plush in my room! Imagine the horror when I realized it was missing!! Immediately I contacted the hotel and not only were they prompt in replying my email but they followed through. They went through lengths and assuring me that they would do a thorough search should the need arise. Not only were they so swift in their response but they went all out to really assist me! Lucky my ‘buddy’ was found due to my forgetfulness but I cannot thank the team enough for really wanting to help! Much appreciation to Mr Mark Athan and team! I cannot express the gratitude enough! It will always be the people that make a vast difference to make your stay a better one!
The hotel lobby is beautiful and the young lady Jess (short for Jessica she said) was great. She was friendly and informative. Our room was nice but the furniture looks a little outdated. The service in the restaurant for lunch on 1 day and breakfast on 2 other days wasn't the greatest. We weren't offered refills on water or coffee. The server made sure to come to the table to give us the bill though. I went to the bar one night and the server was nice ( I can't recall his name). It took quite a long time for the bartender to make our drinks and there weren't many people in the place. The drinks were good and the food when we ate in the restaurant was good also but both drinks and food was pricey. The breakfast buffet was $30 per person. If you have a vehicle there they charge for parking as well. The water in the bathroom sink got hot but the shower did not. I spoke with someone at the desk and she said she would have maintenance come in. Not sure if they ever did because the water stayed the same not warm enough temperature the remainder of our stay. Even with the things I mentioned I would stay here again if the price is right. I frequent California often and although I encountered some issues they weren't exactly a deal breaker.
The people were great and so nice. However the room 233 an ADA room was great inside but next to maintenance locker or some such thing that made noise all day and NIGHT. Loved their cookies, very yummy.
I had a late business meeting in the hotel lounge and the food and the service was Great. Greeted by a very friendly Hotel staff. I kept my meal simple for the evening and had the Burger and it was delicious. The middle of the week and there was live music playing in the lounge and dancing ?. Everyone was having a great time. It was good to be in a great atmosphere once again.
Stuff and the service is good. Breakfast has rich options. Rooms are noisy so much. I woke up because of the noise and also my friends too. So having some rest is almost impossible. Especially Ground floor and first floor. Pool is average , cleaning is nice. Lobby areas and the rooms has good air condition systems. Location is quite dangerous be careful. Under the overpass area there is so many homeless people. Do not pass alone.
The staff was very helpful and accommodating. From the front desk, housekeeping, security, restaurant and bar staff. We had a great stay and enjoyed all the amenities. The hotel was very clean. The grounds and landscaping were very well kept. The parking lots are secure and monitored via CCTV. I love the setup of the hotel with the pool/hot tub area surrounded by water features and wonderful outdoor seating areas. We will be returning.
I was ready to leave a 1-star review for this hotel based on my first couple of days, but thanks to the responsiveness of the maintenance team, I’m adjusting my rating upward. Here’s what happened: One of the perks of staying at a Hilton property is the ability to select your room a day before arrival, which I did. However, shortly before arriving, I received a notification that my room had been changed. Instead of the higher floor I selected, I was placed on the 2nd floor—right behind the elevators and next to a hallway entrance. The entrance door's arm was broken, so every time someone used it, it slammed loudly and rattled the walls in my room. Add to that the constant mechanical noise from the nearby elevator, and it made for a very restless start to my stay. To their credit, maintenance resolved the door issue after a couple of days, which significantly improved the noise level. Unfortunately, the elevator sounds persisted, occurring several times an hour. It’s not ideal if you're a light sleeper or value peace and quiet. On the positive side, the interior of the 1-bedroom suite was great—cozy layout, mini fridge, wet bar, spacious bathroom, and a very comfortable bed. One of the buildings here is only four floors with balconies that double as walkways, while the taller building offers private balconies and more floors—something to keep in mind when booking. All in all, my experience was mixed. While I appreciated the room’s features and the efforts of the maintenance staff, the location of my assigned room really impacted my stay. I’m still undecided on whether I’d return.
